RC PRO CARIBBEAN ROUND 1 WEST
Sunday March the 3rd was the day, in a cool sunny morning racers from all over the country got together under the clear skies of Sierra Prieta in the outsides of the City of Santo Domingo. The stage was set, the track was dry, and the air was hot, it took 1 hour to get the track wet in order to minimize the dust cloud created by the fierce engines of the off road machines that would be run on this day. Qualifiers started and signs of things to come came along with them. In a day filled with surprises and misfortunes, one Driver managed to come out on top not only surprising many but also putting on a heck of a run by winning all classes.
Monster Truck
In the 1st Qualifier top contender Eric Groba showed why he is one of the main drivers in these class and probably the man too beat as he took the 1st round by a full lap from second place. Bu this wasn’t to stand as the kid form the town by the beach 9 year old Carlos Sikora, following the instructions of his mechanic and father Richard Sikora took TQ away from Eric By 7 secs. Thus laying out the field for this race. IN the Main we saw a few surprises, as expected the fight between Eric and Carlos was fierce but a Breakdown of Eric's Revo cost him the lead and New Comer Pablo Pou capitalized taking second place, Carlos Sikora led the rest of the race by running a mistake free Race, in an amazing display of poise and skill the 9 year old took the win, new comer Pablo Pou came in second 5 laps down and followed by Eric Groba who miraculously made it to the podium.
Truggy
As expected the usual Kyosho Trio of Team Driver Ortiz, Sikora and Lavigne, blew away the competition in the qualifying taking their ST-RRs to 1,2,3 in the qualifiers. In the main terror struck as Ortiz got away with the early lead only to find himself relinquishing it to Sikora due to front diff problems, Gin Lavigne had transponder problems and had to return to pit leaving Sikora all alone to take the win in another impressive run, second place was taken by Antonio David in a hard fight of Mugen vs. Losi with Ramon Tapia edging him out by only 4 secs.
Buggy
The mood was set and some of the drivers and cars were worn from the previous mains, some drivers made it all the way from C-Main to the A-Main. Top Driver Antonio David Catapulted his Novarossi powered losi to take TQ. And thus the stage was set as the to drivers jumped to the A main as expected it was mainly Losi and kyosho up there with one AE and Hobao in the mist. The Race was hard fought for more than half the race, some of the drivers didn’t make it to the start due to technical difficulties, so it left the track with plenty of room to maneuver. But in the end story repeats itself as SIkor took the win by a lap over Ramon Tapia making it a clean sweep for the Wonder kid from the north of the island.
We would like to thank, Nitro Hobbies, COrozo Fuels, La Sorpresa Hobby Shop, Kyosho, CEN, Ciclon, for their support and the whole crew. We cant wait for round 2 which will be held in May in the town By The beach on SIkora's home track. Will the wonder kid hold against his fellow rivals as everyone is gunning for him. But before that him along with the top west drivers will make a stop at Caribbean east round 2 to go up against the best they have in a prelude to the Caribbean finals.
